Coming to a close?
Up to date progress of my current piece in my series Through The Darkness Comes The Light.
I'm at a little bit of a crossroads here. I've been working on this series of paintings for about 7 months now (a year including the conceptual and experiment stage) and I'm wondering if I should stop soon or keep going. About 3 paintings ago I was ready to hang up my hat and call it quits on them until I had reached a new personal turning point. The way I make my under painting allows me to get my paintings done faster and create a slightly different atmosphere that is a little unpredictable. This little discovery led me to a new love for this series. I believe I have now reached a point where I learned enough from this series emotionally, spiritually, and technically that I can walked away from it and continue to use it with anything else I will do in the future.
My wife has been telling me to move on. She says I am far from the place that I was when I started these paintings and that the meaning has now been lost with them. I can definitely see where she is coming from in that sense, but this series has been shifting in phases along the way and maybe this is just another of the phases. Or I could just be beating a dead horse at this point, I'm not really too sure. In which ever case it may be, I have completely enjoyed working on this series more than any other related thing I have done. I hope it can be enjoyed by others just as much.
